"We strongly condemn the Russian missile and drone attacks targeting Ukrainian civilians, which have killed 12 people, including three children," the Polish foreign ministry said on Monday.

"Ukraine seeks peace by agreeing to a ceasefire, while Russia continues its ruthless attacks on civilian targets," it added in a statement posted on the X social media platform.

"The only way to end the war is to increase support for Ukraine and to increase pressure on Russia," the post also said.

Poland scrambled aircraft and put its air defence systems on alert as Russia launched a new massive air attack on Ukraine in the early hours of Monday morning.

Russia launched a record 355 drones against Ukraine overnight into Monday and also fired nine missiles at its neighbour, according to the Ukrainian military..

Earlier, at least 12 people died and more than 30 were injured in a massive air attack during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

Air raid alerts were declared across the country.

'Russia can only be constrained by force': Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian army launched the largest number of drones against his country since the start of the war.

"The Russian army launched the largest number of drones against our cities and communities since the beginning of the full-scale war — 355 attack UAVs, mostly 'Shaheds,'" he said in a message on X. "There were also nine cruise missiles. Sadly, there are injured people and damage to civilian infrastructure."

He added that "the geography of last night’s strike" stretched from the Chernihiv region in the north to the Khmelnytskyi region in the west and from the Kharkiv region in the northeast to the Odesa region in the southwest.

"This was already the third consecutive night of combined Russian terror — attack drones and missiles," he said.

"Russia can only be constrained by force," he wrote. "Only through strength — the strength of the United States, of Europe, of all nations that value life — can these attacks be stopped and real peace achieved."

He said: "Russia must end its war. And for that to happen, we must deprive them of the resources that fuel their will to fight," Zelensky said.
