The fire broke out Thursday evening in the attic of one of the blocks and spread quickly, damaging more than 200 apartments and affecting over 500 people, according to local authorities.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an emergency meeting on Friday with security officials and the interior minister to address a series of recent fires and escalating tensions at the country’s border, according to new government spokesperson Adam Szłapka.

“A decision has been made to release special funds to help those affected by the fire - no one in need will be left without support,” government spokesperson Adam Szłapka said after meeting with the Polish prime minister.
The scale of aid will be determined once damage assessments are complete. Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Jan Grabiec, visited the site on Friday.
