Addressing participants gathered in Warsaw on Monday, Poland’s top diplomat said that respect and standing in global competition are neither guaranteed nor permanent.

Although Sikorski’s speech was closed to the media, excerpts were shared on his and the foreign ministry’s official accounts on platform X.

"I firmly believe that a strengthened NATO and strong transatlantic ties will remain the foundation of our prosperity and security. Yet hope is not a strategy,” said the Polish foreign minister.

He added: "This must go hand in hand with preparing for what, in the language of diplomacy, we call suboptimal scenarios. We have to do both: pursue the best possible relations and invest in military and economic cooperation - but also be ready for difficulties.”

Sikorski also spoke about a recent amendment to the visa law prepared by the foreign ministry, which came into effect on June 1. He said that its primary goal is to address irregularities identified by the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), the inter-ministerial Migration Team, and the parliamentary investigative committee.

The politician added that the ministry is preparing for investment and modernization projects, as well as new leases, in multiple locations worldwide, saying: “We are preparing for investment and modernization projects, as well as new leases, in many locations around the world. In Paris, Stockholm, New York, New Delhi, Canton, Rome, Budapest, and London.”

Sikorski also pointed to the development of artificial intelligence, which, he said, “will enter our professional lives as a necessary operational layer.”

“It will be a major transformation - driven by objective circumstances, but carried out on our terms,” he added.

The 2025 Annual Conference of Heads of Diplomatic Missions, running until July 12, has gathered more than 160 senior representatives from Polish embassies, consulates, and cultural institutes worldwide, with Moldovan President Maia Sandu as the special guest.
