The Polish foreign ministry wrote on X that the talks covered "the situation in Ukraine, the media hub in Warsaw and Moldova’s accession path."
It quoted Kos as warning of “external, destructive forces like Russia” and arguing that free media must be funded because “Russia created factories of lies.”
Kos said the European Union is debating how to finance independent outlets serving nations without democracy and is weighing higher allocations in the next EU budget period from 2028.
Since 2020, EUR 170 million has been directed to Belarus, including for independent media, she was quoted as saying.
Kos appeared on Polish public television TVP’s foreign-language services Belsat, Wot Tak and Slawa TV.
Slawa TV, a Ukrainian arm of TVP launched in March, is part of the broadcaster's Foreign Media Center created in December.
Foreign ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński said it was crucial to "explain the EU" in countries where Russian messaging dominates.
TVP recently added a Moldovan-language service and plans Azeri, Armenian, Georgian, Kazakh and Uzbek programming, he said.
Poland is proposing that the EU back a Warsaw-based media platform employing staff from multiple countries, Wroński added.
After restructuring, TVP’s foreign channels logged 159 million views in June, up from about 70 million at the start of the year, across YouTube, social media and Biełsat, Wot Tak and Slawa TV, according to Wroński.
Protests in Ukraine over anti-corruption law
Sikorski and Kos also discussed recent Ukrainian moves affecting the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
Ukraine’s parliament on Tuesday posted President Volodymyr Zelensky’s signature on legislation placing NABU and SAP under the Prosecutor General’s Office after lawmakers voted to limit their independence, according to reports.
NABU director Semen Kryvonos said the bill “destroyed the anti-corruption infrastructure.”
NABU was created in 2014 as a condition for cooperation with the EU and the International Monetary Fund.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul cautioned on Wednesday that weakening NABU and SAP could jeopardize Ukraine’s European aspirations.
