Tomasz Biera is the first Polish recipient of the award, which has been presented annually since 2015 to people aged 13 to 20 who, with limited resources, have shown moral courage and social commitment.

This year’s 13 laureates represent 11 countries: Poland, Sweden, Australia, Greece, Canada, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, Serbia, Tanzania and Hungary.

Biera was singled out for his volunteer work, humanitarian efforts and fundraising for medical treatment. He also serves on the Youth Council in Warsaw’s Śródmieście district.

The awards ceremony is set for August 27 in Stockholm, the Raoul Wallenberg Remembrance Day. Recipients will receive diplomas and take part in "a tour in Wallenberg’s footsteps."

Raoul Wallenberg, Sweden's special envoy in Budapest in 1944, saved thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary before being arrested by the Soviet Red Army in January 1945. He later disappeared in Soviet custody, and Russia has never released records on his fate.
