Preliminary findings suggest its damage may have been caused by explosives.
“Initially, we are dealing with a military drone. Its damage was most likely caused by explosive materials. We cannot yet determine the type of explosives; further tests will clarify that,” said Grzegorz Trusiewicz of the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office.
A military expert has been sent to the site to verify the circumstances.
Later on Wednesday, Poland’s state news agency PAP reported, citing a Ministry of Defence source, that the drone did not carry a warhead and was likely a “decoy” drone.
Trusiewicz emphasized that the role of explosives is still being investigated. He noted that the drone may have come into contact with nearby power lines, which could have triggered the explosion - a theory authorities are currently considering.
Authorities have ruled out the possibility of a civilian or smuggling drone. Investigators are using a 3D scanner and an inspection drone to reconstruct the scene.
