The NATO mission will secure a strategic logistics hub on the alliance’s eastern flank, Brekelmans said.
“We do this to protect NATO, defend Ukraine and deter Russia,” he added.
The Patriot systems will provide layered air defense against threats ranging from ballistic and cruise missiles to aircraft, helicopters and drones.
The Dutch contingent will stay in Poland at least through end-May 2026.
Brekelmans said the operation is limited to Polish territory and does not place Western troops in Ukraine; the Patriots will not be used to defend Ukrainian soil directly.
The Netherlands had earlier announced a “significant contribution” to Kyiv, including Patriot systems and F-35 fighters stationed in Poland.
From September to December, Dutch aircraft will patrol NATO airspace with Norway.
