Earlier the same day, Carney spoke with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk as part of his official visit to the capital.

Nawrocki faces criticism over Ukraine social aid decision

The meeting took place amid domestic controversy after President Nawrocki announced he would not sign amendments to Ukraine-related social aid, arguing that the monthly benefit should only be provided to Ukrainians working in Poland.

The decision drew reproach, among others, from Poland’s Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, who emphasized that the benefit is intended to support children, who should not be penalized for their parents’ employment status, and described the president’s move as lacking basic decency.
