Poland's top diplomat Radosław Sikorski is set to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Miami on Tuesday to discuss NATO’s eastern flank security and prospects for peace in Ukraine, the Polish foreign ministry spokesman said.

Paweł Wroński, the ministry’s spokesman, told reporters that Sikorski’s talks with Rubio would focus on Washington's role in strengthening NATO’s eastern defences and on possible steps toward a peace process for Ukraine.

"The perspective of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on launching any peace process is important. The process is not happening, and Ukrainian cities are constantly being bombed," Wroński said.

Sikorski is visiting Miami to take part in a ceremony presenting the Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize to a Cuban opposition figure. Rubio will also attend the ceremony, and both are expected to deliver remarks.

The laureate’s name has not been disclosed ahead of the event.

Asked if Sikorski’s meeting with Rubio was linked to Wednesday’s planned talks in Washington between Polish President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump, Wroński said the Miami visit was scheduled earlier.

He added that the decision to award this year’s Solidarity Prize was made two months ago, when Rubio was invited.

The spokesman said economic cooperation would also be discussed, alongside security issues.

He added that Sikorski is also set to meet with Cuban opposition representatives, members of the Polish community and US politicians from across the spectrum.

The Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize, awarded by Poland's foreign ministry, was created in 2014 but suspended after 2015. It was reinstated last year.
