The primary goal of this center is to facilitate faster information sharing among key stakeholders regarding cyberattacks targeting water utilities, enabling better prevention and a coordinated response. The initiative has already gained the support of water supply companies from major cities, including Warsaw, Wrocław, Poznań, and Kraków.

Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, emphasized the seriousness of the issue:

"The threat of cyberattacks on water suppliers is real. We must act proactively to protect this critical infrastructure," he stated.

Alarming Rise in Cyberattacks

Data from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime reveals a sharp increase in the number of cyber incidents across the country. Cybercriminals often use ransomware to encrypt victims' data, demanding payment in exchange for decryption. The number of reported ransomware attacks has risen dramatically over the past few years.
