The wreckage of a drone found on Saturday in the Lublin region of eastern Poland is set to be handed over to forensic experts for examination next week, Polish Radio has reported. The unmanned aerial vehicle crashed just a few hundred meters from residential buildings in the village of Majdan-Sielec.

According to early findings, the drone likely belonged to smugglers and was not of military origin. "The on-site inspection confirmed that the drone was not equipped with a combat warhead," said Rafał Kawalec, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Zamość.

Initial assessments indicate that the drone was lightweight and made of a material resembling styrofoam. Residents did not report hearing any explosions, and the noise of the drone itself was not loud enough to alert or disturb them during the night.

Authorities suspect the drone may have entered Poland from Ukrainian territory, although no traces of smuggled goods were found among the debris.

Tomaszów County Governor Henryk Karwan told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that the drone crashed in a field roughly 500 meters from the nearest homes. "Regardless of the type of drone, unfortunately, it was not detected by specialized surveillance systems," Karwan said. "As a border county, we are particularly concerned about such provocative, probing actions. The fear here is definitely greater than in the interior of the country," he added.

Majdan-Sielec is a small village located about 50 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and is home to approximately 200 residents.

The discovery adds to growing concerns in border regions about the potential use of drones for smuggling or reconnaissance activities, especially in the context of ongoing tensions in the region.
