Drone sightings over Poland from Tuesday into Wednesday led Norwegian morning newscasts, with daily Aftenposten assessing that Moscow may be testing how air defenses over NATO member Poland respond—or that Russia experienced a widespread failure of its unmanned systems.
Per Anders Johansen, Aftenposten’s correspondent in Przemyśl, wrote that the flights could be a probe of how air defense over Poland provided by NATO reacts in a real attack, including what procedures are followed, how quickly units respond and which forces are deployed first.
Citing Ukrainian sources, the newspaper also pointed to a second possibility: a mass malfunction of Russian equipment. It did not rule out that Ukrainian electronic warfare may have disrupted control systems for Russian drones.
Ukraine said Russia carried out another large-scale nighttime attack using missiles and drones, triggering air-raid alerts nationwide, including in western regions near the Polish border.
Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said that during the attack on Ukraine, Polish airspace was violated multiple times by drones.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said drones that could have posed a threat were shot down.
