Hołownia, speaker of the Polish Sejm (lower house of parliament) who is set to step down in mid-November, was being questioned over his comments about a potential “coup” in Poland.

The session was cut short due to his official duties as Sejm speaker, according to his lawyer, Bartosz Lewandowski, who also represents the Constitutional Tribunal and the National Council of the Judiciary. According to his assurances, the questioning is scheduled to resume on 3 November.

Hołownia’s questioning relates to remarks he made in July on the Polsat News programme, in which he said he had been urged to delay the inauguration of Karol Nawrocki as President of the Constitutional Tribunal, describing the situation as a potential “coup.” He later clarified that the term was meant politically, not legally.

The investigation follows a complaint by Bogdan Święczkowski, President of the Constitutional Tribunal, and is being conducted confidentially by the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office.
