Prosecutors accuse him of influence peddling and accepting personal and financial benefits in exchange for helping a private company secure contracts with state-owned firms.
According to investigators, between 2016 and 2021, he allegedly demanded that his wife be hired by the businessman involved and accepted the use of a company car free of charge.
The former minister is alleged to have obtained financial benefits worth at least 60,000 złoty (€14,144). He was released after posting bail of 100,000 złoty (€23,574) and is prohibited from leaving the country. He denies any wrongdoing.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, confirmed that Paweł M. served as undersecretary of state in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister from December 2015 to October 2016, deputy minister of digital affairs until January 2018, and subsequently as deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
Prosecutors say he is accused of using his influence in the Prime Minister’s Office and other state units managing public funds, and of mediating contracts for a specific company.
In return, he allegedly sought employment for his wife and accepted the use of a company car whose leasing and operating costs were covered by the businessman.
The charges include influence peddling and accepting both financial and personal benefits. Preventive measures imposed on him include bail, police supervision, a ban on leaving the country with his passport retained, and a prohibition on contacting certain individuals.
The investigation is multi-layered: so far, 16 people have faced 36 charges, including the former head of RARS, Michał K., and three other agency officials.
