Prosecutors allege that Matecki was involved in the embezzlement of millions of zlotys from the Justice Fund, a government programme intended to support crime victims.
According to the National Public Prosecutor’s Office, more than PLN 16 million (EUR 3.8 million) was allegedly diverted through fake invoices, inflated contracts and fictitious employment.
Investigators say the money was later used to finance political and media activities, including online portals and election materials.
The indictment, which runs over 200 pages, details the alleged network of individuals and transactions involved in the scheme.
Matecki has denied all charges, calling them “baseless and politically motivated.”

The case is part of a broader inquiry into the alleged misuse of public money under the previous Law and Justice government, which lost power in Poland in 2023.
