The Polish Armed Forces said the move was precautionary and aimed at protecting national airspace, particularly in areas close to the Ukrainian border. Both Polish and allied aircraft are currently operating in Poland’s airspace.

In a statement posted on Tuesday on X, the Operational Command of Poland’s Armed Forces said that, in line with established procedures, the commander had activated “all necessary forces and resources” under his authority.

Air raid alerts were issued across large parts of Ukraine after Russian cruise missiles were detected approaching from the north-east, alongside earlier waves of drones launched from multiple directions.

Poland’s military said the readiness level of its forces had been raised.

Fighter jets were scrambled, while ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were put on full operational standby.

The situation is being continuously monitored by the Operational Command.

Officials stressed that the measures are preventive in nature and designed to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

The armed forces remain on standby and ready to respond should the situation escalate.
