Police urged the public to call the emergency number 112 to report anyone who may need help.

The latest deaths occurred on Friday in the villages of Jelnica, Sporniak and Krebsówka in the eastern Lubelskie region, according to data published by the RCB.

Since October 1, a total of 17 people across the country have died as a result of hypothermia.

Authorities have appealed for vigilance as temperatures continue to drop. The RCB reminded residents to take precautions during the cold spell and not to ignore people who may be at risk of exposure.

'One phone call can save a life'

In a message posted on the social media platform X, police said that “one phone call can save a life.”

In response to forecast subzero temperatures, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) on Friday issued first-degree severe frost warnings for eight provinces.

Alerts were in place for the Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie regions in southern Poland, as well as parts of the Lubelskie, Łódzkie, Małopolskie, Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Wielkopolskie regions.

Forecasters warned that the night from Saturday to Sunday would remain bitterly cold.

Heavy snowfall was expected in northern Poland, with significant snow also forecast in mountainous areas.

Temperatures are predicted to fall to minus 16°C in the southeast, minus 11°C in central regions, and between minus 4°C and 0°C along the Baltic coast.

In response to the worsening weather, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration instructed regional governors to step up assistance measures.

Emergency services were ordered to intensify patrols and inspect vacant buildings, allotment gardens and parks where vulnerable people may seek shelter.
