Poland will not deploy troops to Iran, Prime Minister Donald Tusk reiterated on Tuesday, saying that the Middle East conflict does not directly affect Poland's security.

Speaking before a Cabinet meeting in Warsaw, Tusk said Poland has "other tasks" within the NATO alliance, including overseeing security in the Baltic Sea region.

"Poland has other tasks within NATO – this applies to our land, air and naval forces, which are still, I would say, under development," he said.

He added that Poland's naval assets must remain focused on Baltic security, and that allies, including the United States, understand this position.

The comments come amid an ongoing military conflict in the Middle East.

The United States and Israel have been conducting air strikes against Iran since February 28.

Iran has responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf states, targeting American military bases as well as civilian sites.

Tehran has also blocked the Strait of Hormuz – a critical route for global oil trade – causing a sharp rise in fuel prices on world markets.

US President Donald Trump this week renewed calls for other nations to join operations aimed at reopening the strait.
