“Today I handed over the appointment to one of the key positions for Poland’s security”, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Tuesday. “This is an extremely responsible mission, of significant importance for strengthening Poland’s position and developing international cooperation”.
Błazeusz will replace General Sławomir Wojciechowski in the post.
Operational Commander Lieutenant General Maciej Klisz also congratulated Błazeusz, saying the role was “one of the key positions for state security” and required top-level command skills, operational experience and the ability to work effectively in an international environment.
“This function is of fundamental importance for shaping Poland’s position and strengthening cooperation within NATO and the European Union”, Klisz wrote on X.
Błazeusz is one of Poland’s most experienced generals, having served as deputy chief of the General Staff and former commander of Eurocorps.
According to the Defense Ministry, he began military service at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1994. He later served as a NATO specialist in the defense ministry and as deputy defense attaché in Washington.
He also commanded the 10th rotation of Poland’s task force in Afghanistan in 2011-2012 and later served in Brussels as deputy Polish military representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees.
Since 2021, he has held senior positions in Poland’s General Staff. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, the University of Warsaw and other Polish defense institutions.
