Kosiniak-Kamysz said he had presented the proposal to US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth as part of ongoing efforts to deepen defence cooperation between the two allies.
“US engagement in Poland's security is not decreasing—on the contrary, it could become even greater," the Polish defense minister wrote on the X social media platform on Wednesday.
Speaking later at a news conference in Warsaw, Kosiniak-Kamysz said the proposal followed a diplomatic push by the Polish government in recent months, including talks with Hegseth and visits by deputy defence ministers to Washington.
He also cited what he described as a good relationship between Polish President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said Washington had requested additional details on the proposal and was also seeking information on Poland's potential financial contribution to the project.
"We are working on those details," he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters that Poland already invests in hosting US forces and pledged to create conditions that would make an expanded American presence attractive.
"We will do everything possible to increase the presence of US troops," he said. "We will create conditions that are attractive to our American partner."
At the same time, he cautioned against "excessive optimism," stressing that no final decisions had been made and that discussions remained at a planning stage.
The proposal comes after reports earlier this year that the Pentagon halted the planned rotational deployment of about 4,000 US troops to Poland.
Following talks with Hegseth in May, Kosiniak-Kamysz said the Pentagon chief had assured him that no decision had been taken to reduce American military capabilities in Poland and that the US military was merely reorganising forces in Europe.
Trump later announced that the United States would deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, describing the move as a result of his relationship with Nawrocki, whom he endorsed during Poland's 2025 presidential election campaign.
About 10,000 US troops are currently stationed in Poland under a mix of permanent and rotational deployments, though most serve on a rotating basis.
Key elements of the US military presence include the forward headquarters of the US Army's V Corps at Camp Kościuszko in the western city of Poznań and the US Army Garrison Poland, which provides administrative and logistical support.
Rotational forces include elements of an Armored Brigade Combat Team deployed under Operation Atlantic Resolve and operating from bases in western Poland, including Żagań, Świętoszów and Bolesławiec.
The logistics and aviation support hub at Powidz east of Poznań and the US contingent stationed at Bemowo Piskie in the country's northeast as part of NATO's enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup also play important roles, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
In northern Poland, the US-operated Aegis Ashore missile defence site at Redzikowo serves as a permanent strategic installation staffed by roughly 200 to 300 American personnel.
