The meeting will precede the two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026), which is expected to bring together prime ministers, government ministers, European Union officials and senior executives from international financial institutions.

European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to open the conference in Gdańsk on Thursday. The event will focus on economic and military assistance for Ukraine, including infrastructure reconstruction.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that Poland has helped prepare around 200 agreements for the conference, many involving direct Polish-Ukrainian cooperation.

The gathering comes amid renewed tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's decision in late May to name a military unit after the World War II-era Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which Poland holds responsible for mass killings of civilians.

Tusk on Tuesday urged restraint in the dispute over historical memory, saying Poland's long-term interests required maintaining strong ties with Ukraine despite recent tensions.

The annual Ukraine Recovery Conference aims to mobilise international support for Ukraine's reconstruction and encourage investment in the country as it defends itself against Russia's ongoing invasion.

Previous conferences have been held in Rome, Berlin, London and Lugano.
