The paper reports that officials close to Poland's president and defence minister are in talks with the US administration over two separate matters: a rotational US troop presence and a proposed permanent American base in the country.

A decision on the base is expected within six months to a year, DGP says, citing a source close to the talks.

The source told the paper Washington has expressed clear political will to move ahead on both fronts.

The report follows a visit to the Pentagon by Bartosz Grodecki, head of Poland's National Security Bureau (BBN).

peaking to DGP, Grodecki said he had repeatedly heard Poland described as a "model ally" of the United States, including in a meeting with Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon's undersecretary of defence for policy.

He said the exchanges pointed to a promising few years ahead for US-Polish cooperation.

Around 10,000 US troops are currently in Poland under a mix of rotational and permanent arrangements, though most serve on rotation.

Warsaw has long sought to increase the number of permanently stationed US troops, arguing that a lasting American military presence would strengthen deterrence against Russia and reinforce NATO's eastern flank.
