Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski met US Under Secretary of Defence Elbridge Colby at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday to address the issue.
A member of Colby's team is due to visit Poland next month to discuss specific proposed locations.
The talks come as the US prepares options for restructuring its military presence across Europe.
According to a document seen by the Reuters news agency, Washington is due to present these scenarios by 6 November, covering troop numbers, locations, timelines and costs.
Zalewski said the American presence in Poland need not be concentrated in a single site.
"This doesn't have to be one base," he said, adding that while a few locations were being discussed for a more substantial presence, the plan essentially involves several bases hosting US troops permanently across the country.
He stressed that the priority was securing capabilities Poland currently lacks — such as reconnaissance and command functions — rather than simply increasing troop numbers.
A permanent US presence, he added, would reflect America's long-term strategic interest in the country, not merely a response to Russian activity.
On nuclear weapons, Zalewski said Poland does not want warheads stationed on its own territory as part of any expanded US presence.
Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, writing on social media, said Warsaw remained "interested in joining NATO's nuclear sharing programme."
He said Poland was also in talks about taking part in a European nuclear umbrella, describing the government's position on these matters as clear.
