Krzysztof Dyl, chairman of the City Electoral Commission, told journalists that the submission period ended on Thursday at 4 p.m. By that time, the commission had also received complete applications from Marian Banaś (former head of the Supreme Audit Office), Bartosz Bocheńczak (Confederation), Łukasz Gibała (“Kraków for Residents” Committee), Daria Gosek‑Popiołek (Left), Michał Klimek (Confederation of the Polish Crown), Stanisław Kułach, Sławomir Pietrzyk (Social Democracy Poland) and Marta Ratuszyńska.
Dyl said the commission expects to verify the submitted signatures by Monday and adopt resolutions on registration or rejection at 4 p.m. that day.
Thursday was the final day for prospective candidates to collect signatures supporting their candidacy. Each candidate had to submit at least 3,000 valid signatures along with personal information, including identity number and address.
According to Dyl, the number of rejected signatures was similar across candidates, except for city councilor Łukasz Gibała, founder of the “Kraków for Residents” association. The commission questioned most of his signatures — more than 3,000 — because they lacked the word “Kraków” next to the address. Gibała submitted the missing signatures on Thursday.
Under election rules, the Municipal Electoral Commission will publicly announce the registered candidates, listed alphabetically, by September 14.
The early election will take place on September 27, following the May referendum in which residents voted to remove Aleksander Miszalski (Civic Coalition) from office.
Until a new mayor is elected, the role is held by Miszalski’s former deputy, Stanisław Kracik.
