He said Russian attacks near the Polish border have become a permanent feature, targeting border crossings and infrastructure in their vicinity. Polish aircraft have to be scrambled repeatedly in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine, he said.
A Russian drone struck about 2 km from the Dorohusk-Jagodzin Polish-Ukrainian border crossing on Monday. The drone hit on the Ukrainian side of the border, according to Poland’s Operational Command.
Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also reported on the incident on X.
Poland’s Government Centre for Security (RCB) sent an alert to residents of the Lubelskie province, eastern Poland, on Monday warning of a possible aerial threat during a Russian attack on Ukraine. Polish airspace was not violated.
Tusk stressed that the government and state services are “very focused on making sure that nothing bad happens on the Polish side.”
He also highlighted close cooperation with Ukraine, saying Polish authorities can count on immediate information from the Ukrainian side when something is heading towards Poland.
Tusk said Ukrainian forces are also trying to neutralise threats while they are still over Ukrainian territory, rather than allowing them to reach the Polish border.
