Under the proposal, foreign nationals taking part in organised tourist trips, youth camps or sports competitions, staying at medical or sanatorium facilities, whose stay costs have been covered, or participating in holiday-work programmes where work is not the main purpose of their stay would need at least PLN 130 (EUR 30) per day, with a minimum of PLN 650 (EUR 152). The current requirement is PLN 20 (EUR 5) per day, with a minimum of PLN 100 (EUR 23).
Foreign nationals entering Poland to begin or continue studies, take part in scientific research or training, carry out development work, or begin or continue education would need PLN 2,020 (EUR 473) for the first two months of their planned stay, up from PLN 1,270 (EUR 297).
The draft’s authors say the existing amounts have not been updated since 2016. Changes in consumer prices have reduced their real value, prompting a review.
The ministry says the proposed requirement for ordinary visitors is in line with reference amounts used in several Schengen countries with similar price levels, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania and Estonia.
The separate requirements for visitors whose accommodation or other stay costs are already covered are intended to ensure they still have sufficient funds for expenses not included in those arrangements, according to the draft.
The draft regulation, published by the Government Legislation Centre, would enter into force 30 days after its publication.
