The Polish armed forces said on Sunday that a possible incursion had been detected near the eastern city of Lublin after Police received two reports of a loud flying object at around 2 a.m.

No breach of the country’s airspace had been confirmed, they stressed.

A ground search-and-rescue team has been deployed to the south of the Lublin region to look for a possible crash site, while police, the Military Police and the Territorial Defence Force are also involved in the operation.

The military’s Operational Command said the investigation was intended to verify radar signals and reports from local residents, establish the nature of the possible object, and determine whether the readings could instead have been caused by weather conditions or technical anomalies.

The reports emerged following a Russian attack on Ukraine, against the backdrop of persistent concerns in Poland about the potential spillover of the war across its borders.
