Dariusz Piontkowski said: “Unfortunately, the current epidemic conditions do not allow us to resume the activities of schools, kindergartens and nurseries.”

High school leaving exams, known as matury, will be held from June 8 to 29, Piontkowski added.

Polish schools were initially shut for two weeks after the coronavirus epidemic broke out. Then the closure was extended until April 26.

A total of 10,759 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 463 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Friday morning.
