Ukrainian woman detained in Poland over human organ trafficking

Polish border guards have detained a Ukrainian woman who was sentenced in Kazakhstan to 12 years in prison for participating in an international criminal group trafficking in human organs.

A Ukrainian woman has been arrested in Poland under an Interpol Red Notice for her role in a criminal network that illegally sold human organs across multiple countries between 2017 and 2019.

The 35-year-old woman, identified only as Ksenia P., was detained last Friday at a railway crossing between Poland and Ukraine.

Her name had appeared in international databases under an Interpol Red Notice.

She had been wanted since November 2020 for her involvement in a criminal network operating across multiple countries, including Kazakhstan, Armenia and Thailand.

Human-organ trafficking network

Ksenia P. was convicted for illegally obtaining and selling 56 kidneys between 2017 and 2019, turning the illicit activity into a steady source of income, according to a report by the Reuters news agency.

She was arrested and questioned by Polish authorities but denied the charges. A Polish court has ordered her temporary detention pending extradition to Kazakhstan.
