The accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. local time on May 5, at the 111th kilometer of the A4 highway in the direction of Wrocław. The bus veered off the road and slid into a ditch.
Initial reports from the police mistakenly identified the passengers as Romanian tourists, but it was later confirmed that they were U.S. military personnel traveling from Germany to Lithuania.

There were 34 people on board at the time of the incident. According to police spokesperson Łukasz Porębski, eight sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene, and a total of 12 emergency vehicles took part in the operation.

The Polish State Fire Service confirmed on social media that 12 emergency vehicles were involved in the response, which continued until around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
