Train fire in western Poland forces evacuation of passengers at Rawicz station

A fire broke out Thursday morning in the rear cars of a packed Polish intercity train at the Rawicz railway station in western Poland, forcing dozens of passengers to evacuate.
According to the music and news fanpage Twoje Radio, Twoja Gaga Góra, a fire broke out in the last car of the Intercity Mieszko train travelling from Wrocław Główny to Gdynia Główna. The incident occured at the Rawicz railway station in western Poland.

According to the local music and news outlet Twoje Radio Gaga Góra, which visited the scene and photographed the burned interiors, the blaze started in car 11 of the Intercity “Mieszko” service running from Wrocław Główny to Gdynia Główna.

Local news site Rawicz24.pl reported that approximately 400 passengers were on board at the time of the incident. Around 70 people evacuated from the final two cars even before emergency crews arrived.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke shortly before 8:00 a.m. and spent roughly an hour extinguishing the flames.

No injuries have been reported, and train traffic has since resumed, with power restored to the overhead lines.
