The nunciature said on Tuesday that Andreev, who is ending his mission, was presented with a commemorative plate on Monday at its Warsaw headquarters by Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and apostolic nuncio to Poland.

The apostolic nuncio represents the Holy See to both the Church and the state. Filipazzi was appointed nuncio to Poland in August 2023 by Pope Francis and previously served in Nigeria.

Russian media reported on July 10 that Andreev would leave his post. He has served in Warsaw since 2014, including the past three years while Russia has waged a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022.

The pro-government Russian daily Vedomosti said the new ambassador is Georgiy Mikhno, born in 1972, who obtained a senior diplomatic rank in 2018 and most recently was deputy director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for New Challenges and Threats.
