Speaking to private Polish broadcaster TV Republika, Nawrocki said the meeting focused on Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Trump “is a leader who knows how to listen and wants to listen,” he said, adding he felt the US president “opened up” to his views on Russia.
Russia 'always seeks to destroy its neighbors'
Nawrocki said he conveyed “the emotions of Polish society,” adding: “I do not trust Vladimir Putin at all. Russia … always seeks to destroy its neighbors, and in my view that has not changed.”
Despite differences with Poland’s government and EU leaders, he said there was unanimity on Russia.
He called for “additional packages of sanctions” and argued: “Putin can talk only with those stronger than himself. President Donald Trump is the only leader today who is capable of negotiations with Vladimir Putin.”
In Poland, attention also centered on Trump’s declaration that he would not withdraw US troops from the country.
Trump clashes with Polish Radio reporter over Russia-Ukraine query
Another moment from the Oval Office drew wide US media coverage.
When Polish Radio correspondent Marek Wałkuski suggested Trump often voiced frustration with Putin without backing it with actions, Trump replied that he had imposed secondary tariffs on India over purchases of Russian oil and was preparing further steps.
"That cost hundreds of billions of dollars to Russia ... But when you say there’s no action, I think you ought to get yourself a new job,” Trump said.
Media reports said Russia did not suffer losses because the tariffs did not cut India’s imports of Russian oil, which instead increased, including to China.
US outlets such as Fox News, The Washington Times and The Hill covered the exchange, Wałkuski told The Hill the president’s response only confirmed he had chosen the right profession.
