Poland is “fully ready” to provide conditions for US forces that are “good for Polish society, attractive for the US Army, and beneficial for the Polish armed forces and the security of the Polish state,” Kosiniak-Kamysz told a news conference on Thursday.
Speaking alongside top military commanders Gen. Wiesław Kukuła and Gen. Maciej Klisz, he said: “We are ready to receive a larger number of American soldiers."
His remarks followed Wednesday’s White House meeting between Polish President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump, during which Trump declared that US troops will remain in Poland.
Citing intensified Russian attacks on western Ukraine in recent weeks that pose risks to Poland’s airspace, Kosiniak-Kamysz underscored allied support for protecting the country’s skies, mentioning assistance from the Netherlands and Norway.
"We need allies, we need their presence, we need a strong NATO presence in Poland," he said. "Therefore we are ready to receive a larger number of US troops if such a decision is taken, and certainly to maintain the number of American soldiers."
Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as a deputy prime minister, reiterated his previous statements that Poland’s role in any arrangement concerning Ukraine would be logistical.
“Polish troops will not be sent to Ukraine,” he said, adding that logistics capabilities are among the most important elements on today’s battlefield.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also said he will travel to Britain next week for a meeting of the defense ministers of Poland, Germany, France, Italy and the UK, which will address, among other topics, the Coalition of the Willing format's decisions on Ukraine.
