Sikorski, speaking at a session on Russian fighter jets intruding into Estonian airspace, said: “If another missile or aircraft is shot down, don’t come here with complaints—you’ve been warned.”
He added that Russia is unable to live in peace with its neighbors and, recalling past conflicts including World War II, appealed to the Kremlin: “Please, do not start another.”
Earlier on Monday, September 22, Sikorski was asked whether he was concerned about the United States’ response to Russian incursions into NATO airspace. “I hope President [Karol] Nawrocki convinces President [Donald] Trump how urgent this issue is,” he said, noting that Poland’s president has “special relations” with Trump and would be in New York “today and tomorrow.”
The minister said he would use his remarks to express solidarity with Estonia, Romania and all countries targeted by Russia’s hybrid warfare, which he said includes sea and air border violations.
Questioned about Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s comments on potentially downing Russian objects in Polish airspace and whether allies were consulted, Sikorski replied that the Polish Armed Forces have a constitutional duty to defend the country’s borders: “No one can relieve them of that.”
Calling the Security Council “the world’s agora,” Sikorski said convening such meetings helps explain “why we are increasing armaments and strengthening NATO’s eastern flank”—because, he argued, Russia is waging war in Ukraine and violating international law.
