Poland has barred pro-Russian Moldovan politician Irina Vlah from entering the country for five years, the foreign ministry said on Thursday, accusing her of helping Moscow interfere in Moldova’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

"Irina Vlah, a Moldovan politician who is assisting Russia in interfering with preparations for the parliamentary elections in Moldova, will be banned from entering Poland," the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

Moldova is set to hold a high-stakes parliamentary vote on Sunday that could determine its European path.

Officials in Chișinău and Western capitals have accused Moscow of trying to sway the outcome and undermine the country's bid to join the EU, according to reports.

Russia has denied meddling in Moldova's affairs and accused Chișinău of stoking anti-Russian sentiment for political purposes, the Reuters news agency reported.

Vlah leads the Heart of Moldova Republican Party and is a senior figure in the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc.

Canada and Lithuania have already imposed entry bans against her.

Poland has been a strong backer of Moldova’s European aspirations. Prime Minister Donald Tusk travelled to Chișinău in August with his French and German leaders to show support for pro-Western President Maia Sandu.
