Sikorski made the announcement following recent protests in Polish cities in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international humanitarian mission intercepted by Israeli authorities. Four Polish citizens were among those on board, including opposition MP Franciszek Sterczewski.

In a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement dated 30 September 2025, Poland welcomed the plan as “a realistic and courageous attempt to end the conflict and create conditions for lasting peace in the Middle East.”

The ministry noted that the plan, developed by the United States in consultation with Arab and Muslim countries and the Israeli government, calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, and unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The statement also highlighted that the plan paves the way for economic reconstruction and a two-state solution, integrating the Gaza Strip and the West Bank into a future Palestinian state.

It stressed the importance of protecting the rights and safety of both Palestinians and Israelis, and urged all parties to act responsibly and cooperate in implementing the agreement.

The MFA indicated expectations that Hamas would accept the plan, comply with its provisions, and release all hostages within 72 hours.

Poland has officially recognised Palestinian statehood since 1988 and is one of around 150 countries to do so.
