A 19-year-old vocational student suspected of posting an online criminal threat against Polish President Karol Nawrocki has admitted to the charge and expressed remorse, prosecutors in Warsaw said on Sunday.
Prosecutors imposed police supervision on the suspect, together with a ban on approaching the president and on coming near buildings belonging to the Presidential Chancellery, including the Presidential Palace and the Belweder residence.

Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the Warsaw prosecutors’ office, told state news agency PAP that procedural steps were carried out on Sunday with the suspect, who is accused of making criminal threats under Article 190, paragraph 1 of the criminal code.

“The suspect admitted to the alleged act, gave very extensive explanations and expressed regret,” Skiba said, adding that at a later stage it would be necessary to question President Nawrocki as the victim and obtain his formal request to prosecute.

The case concerns a post on social media platform X that included a photograph of a handgun and the caption “do zobaczenia Karolku” (“see you, Karol”) published in response to a Friday post on the “Łączy nas Piłka” profile. That post showed Nawrocki watching Friday’s Poland–Netherlands match at Warsaw’s National Stadium.

Although the anonymous user’s threat was later removed, screenshots of the post circulated on news websites, including WP and Telewizja Republika’s portal, prosecutors said.

Skiba said the suspect is a 19-year-old Polish citizen and a vocational school student. He did not name the man.

Prosecutors imposed police supervision on the suspect, together with a ban on approaching the president and on coming near buildings belonging to the Presidential Chancellery, including the Presidential Palace and the Belweder residence.

Skiba added that a formal notification to open the case had been filed with prosecutors by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for the president’s security.

Warsaw police said on Saturday that they had launched action “immediately after obtaining information related to the post on platform X”.

They noted that the handgun photograph used in the deleted threat had previously appeared in a different context on other websites and social media services.
