Hołownia, leader of the Polska 2050 party, stepped down last week, fulfilling a coalition agreement that will see Włodzimierz Czarzasty of the Left party take over the role.
The election requires an absolute majority and the presence of at least half of all lawmakers.
Coalition parties, including Civic Coalition (KO), the Left, Polska 2050, and the Polish People’s Party (PSL), have confirmed their support for Czarzasty’s candidacy.
In addition to choosing a new Speaker, lawmakers will also elect one or more Deputy Speakers.
Polska 2050 plans to nominate Hołownia for a deputy position, while the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has indicated it will not put forward any candidates.
