Poland and its citizens were victims, not perpetrators, of the crimes committed during the Second World War, the US ambassador has said.

Speaking at the IJL International Conference in Warsaw, ambassador Thomas Rose noted that Poland “has suffered profound historical injustice.”

In a video posted to his X profile, Rose stressed that his address was intended to “help correct a deeply unfair historical narrative about Poland.”

The notion that the country shares guilt for the barbaric acts inflicted upon it by occupying forces is a grotesque falsification of history and, in effect, a form of ‘blood libel’ directed at Poles and at Poland, Rose stated.

He underscored that Poland and its citizens were victims, not perpetrators, of the atrocities committed during World War II by the Germans and the Soviets.

Rose also addressed Polish–Jewish relations, noting that Poland remains one of the safest countries in Europe for Jewish communities.
