Two killed in a helicopter crash in southeastern Poland

A Robinson R44 helicopter crashed near the village of Malawa outside Rzeszow, southeastern Poland on Saturday, killing two people, regional fire service spokesman Marcin Betleja told state news agency PAP.

Betleja said 11 units of state and volunteer firefighters extinguished the burning aircraft, secured the crash site and were checking the surrounding area to confirm no additional victims were involved.

Police and the State Commission for Aircraft Accident Investigation have opened an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak said emergency services were working on site. He wrote on platform X that a team has immediately been dispatched to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident.
