Poland is expected to be excluded from mandatory migrant relocation under the European Union’s migration pact, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said Monday, calling it a “success” for the country.
We achieved what we promisedno refugees, no compensation, Kierwiński said. Its a good day. Poland remains recognized as a country under migration pressure, especially for helping our friends from Ukraine.

Speaking ahead of an EU meeting in Brussels, Kierwiński said member states were poised to give preliminary approval to exempt Poland from both accepting relocated asylum seekers and paying financial contributions.

“We achieved what we promised — no refugees, no compensation,” Kierwiński said. “It’s a good day. Poland remains recognized as a country under migration pressure, especially for helping our friends from Ukraine.”

The exemption, initially approved by the European Commission last month, is expected to apply for the upcoming year. Alongside Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia are also set to be excluded from the pact’s solidarity pool.

The EU migration pact allows member states to either accept relocated migrants from frontline countries or pay EUR 20,000 for each individual they decline to take.
