In an interview published on Monday by the wp.pl news website, Nawrocki said the talks, scheduled for Friday, could "open a new chapter" in Polish-Ukrainian relations while safeguarding Poland’s strategic interests.

"The talks will reflect the strategic interests of Poland and include a clear discussion of issues that matter to the Polish people," Nawrocki said.

He added that Zelensky's visit could "help restore balance" in relations between Warsaw and Kyiv.

"We have lost the element of partnership in Polish-Ukrainian relations, and I say this openly," he said.

He vowed that as president he "will not allow Poland to be treated merely as an antechamber or corridor in matters of strategic importance."

"We support Ukraine and will continue to do so, but we must learn to function as partners," Nawrocki said.

While in Warsaw on Friday, Ukraine's Zelensky is also expected to meet with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and visit parliament, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
