Presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz confirmed the planned January meeting, adding, “It could have been done this way from the start,” and noting that the president had previously been blocked from holding such talks.

At a Monday press conference, Kosiniak-Kamysz said he and Siemoniak had formally requested the meeting to present classified plans and budget proposals for 2026 and discuss pending officer promotions. Leśkiewicz welcomed the initiative, stressing that the president had sought such a meeting months ago but was denied by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Presidential chief of staff Paweł Szefernaker echoed the remarks, saying the meeting is vital for national security and foreign policy coordination. He added that Nawrocki remains in direct contact with Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The meeting follows a political standoff earlier this year over military promotions. In November, Tusk accused Nawrocki of blocking nominations for 136 candidates from the Military Counterintelligence Service and Internal Security Agency.

Nawrocki responded that intelligence chiefs had been barred by the government from meeting with him and that crucial information had been withheld during a security council session. He said his ability to make informed decisions on officer promotions was hindered by four canceled meetings with security officials.

Leśkiewicz stated in late November that the president would decide on the promotions only after such a meeting was held.
