Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said US President Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for greater European support for Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Nawrocki, a vocal supporter of Trump, rejected concerns over the US presidents controversial statements, including threats to seize Greenland, calling such matters internal to the United States and Denmark. He insisted the US remains Europes key security guarantor, despite recent tensions within NATO.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4 during his visit to Britain, Nawrocki described Putin as untrustworthy and warned that Europe is living in “dangerous times,” citing increasing Russian hybrid threats against Poland and its neighbors.

“We are dealing with gray zone activities—drones, disinformation. Since 2021, we have been in a state of hybrid war with Russia,” he said, referencing a mass drone incursion from Belarus and Ukraine last September. “Until that time, no NATO member state had experienced a drone attack on that scale.”

The Polish president thanked the UK for sending RAF Typhoon jets to bolster Polish air defenses and emphasized the importance of British-Polish relations, noting that about 1 million Poles live in the UK.

“I would like to express my very deep appreciation for the British soldiers who are stationed in Poland,” he said.

Nawrocki, a vocal supporter of Trump, rejected concerns over the US president’s controversial statements, including threats to take over Greenland, calling such matters internal to the United States and Denmark.

He insisted the United States remains Europe’s key security guarantor, despite recent tensions within NATO.

“What President Trump is doing on behalf of the Europeans deserves support and great respect,” Nawrocki said.

He warned against Europe drifting away from Washington, arguing that such detachment would harm both economic and military security.

He also criticized European leaders for focusing on “ideological issues such as climate policy and migration,” while failing to build long-term resilience.

“Poland is now allocating close to 5 percent of its GDP to defense,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Nawrocki said Poland’s fast-growing economy should earn it a seat at next year’s G20 summit in the UK.
