Peter Magyar, who heads the conservative Tisza party, said Poland's former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro and former deputy justice minister Marcin Romanowski would be handed over to Polish authorities "on the first day" after forming a government.

Both men served under the Law and Justice (PiS) government in Poland and are the subject of arrest warrants issued by Polish authorities.

Magyar suggested the politicians might instead flee to Minsk or Moscow before his potential government takes office.

The comments came after Magyar met Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.

The two discussed rebuilding relations strained during Viktor Orban's time in office, including through the Visegrad Group format.

Tusk shared a photograph of the meeting on social media, writing: "Some wanted to make Warsaw into Budapest. Today Budapest wants to be like Warsaw."

Magyar said Poland would support releasing frozen EU funds for Hungary once corruption was addressed, though he stressed neither his party nor most Hungarians backed accelerating Ukraine's EU accession.

Ziobro responded on social media, questioning whether Magyar had told Hungarians his victory would "introduce rainbow Fridays in schools, and drive up electricity prices."

Hungary's parliamentary elections are scheduled for April 12.
