Nineteen people were evacuated from the area following the discovery.

The incident occurred at the Dołhobyczów border crossing in eastern Poland's Lubelskie region, state news agency PAP reported.

Paweł Smyk, a spokesman for the Nadbużański Border Guard unit, said officers from the National Revenue Administration (KAS) found “two parts of an object resembling a grenade” during the inspection. A bomb disposal unit was called to the scene.

“Nobody was injured. Border checks are continuing as normal,” Smyk said, adding that procedures involving the Estonian citizen were ongoing.

Earlier, firefighters said they secured the site after the device was found.

Fourteen civilians, three customs officers and two Border Guard officers were evacuated from the area, the PAP news agency reported.

Authorities said the incident was reported shortly after 5 a.m.
