In a statement, Rubio congratulated Poles on the anniversary, saying the 1791 constitution "stands as a testament to your nation's enduring commitment to democracy, liberty, and national sovereignty."

He added that "Polish defenders of liberty have been a part of America's story from the beginning," highlighting what he described as a shared commitment to freedom and prosperity.

Rubio said the United States "deeply values" its partnership with Poland, including "strong and growing cooperation on defense, trade, and energy security."

"As we mark 235 years since Poland's historic constitution, we celebrate our shared history and look forward to more achievements together in the years to come," Rubio wrote.

Poland's Constitution of May 3, 1791, was the first modern constitution in Europe and the second in the world after that of the United States to codify principles of government in a written form.
