Poland begins preparations for Armed Forces Day parade

Poland begins preparations for its Armed Forces Day parade, held every year on 15 August.

This year's event carries the slogan Polska SAFE - Bezpieczna Polska ("Poland SAFE – Secure Poland"), a reference to the EU's defence loan programme.

As usual, the parade will take place in Warsaw, with infantry and mechanised units marching along the Wisłostrada road at midday.

A flypast is planned overhead, while Gdynia on the Baltic coast will host a naval parade.

Events marking the holiday are also taking place across the country, including military equipment displays, meetings with soldiers and brass band concerts.

Infantry units due to take part in the Warsaw parade begin training on Monday under instructors from the Polish Armed Forces' Representative Company, based at Bemowo airfield in the capital.

Meanwhile, mechanised units, including tanks, howitzers, command and armoured vehicles, have gathered at the 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade to prepare for the display.
