Chemical and radiological hazards, as well as the presence of explosives, have been ruled out, while tests for biological materials are still underway, Lt. Col. Dariusz Rozkosz, spokesman for the chief commander of the military police, told Poland’s PAP news agency.
Military police, a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in the regional capital Gdańsk and police securing the area were at the site on Wednesday.
The object, which was found on Tuesday evening, was partially covered with sand, state news agency PAP reported.
Once all potential hazards have been ruled out, an investigative team will examine, recover and secure the object for further testing, Rozkosz said.
Mariusz Duszyński, a spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk, told reporters that a prosecutor arrived at the site at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Under the prosecutor's supervision, military police initially marked off and secured the area where the fragments were found, he said.
Work was suspended overnight because of darkness, reporters were told.
More investigators headed to the site on Wednesday after the effort resumed.
Further decisions will be made after prosecutors and military police complete their work at the beach, Duszyński said.
Authorities were notified at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after a passerby found an object resembling a drone.
Private broadcaster RMF FM reported that the device was about 2 metres long.
Citing what it described as unofficial sources, the broadcaster reported that the fragments were from a Polish test drone that had taken part in an exercise.
